Essential Audit & Oversight for Your South African Company

You already have an accountant who files your returns. SARS still holds your company's Public Officer accountable for its tax affairs. We act as your designated Public Officer and oversee your statutory compliance, so nothing is missed and you always know your status. Fixed annual fee: R4,750.

Who this is for

Company owners and directors, including those living abroad, who already work with their own accountant or tax practitioner and need a South African resident Public Officer with ongoing oversight.

What is included

  • Appointment-related cooperation with your accountant to update the SARS Public Officer details and eFiling profile (the appointment itself is charged separately at R2,850).
  • Maintenance and verification of statutory records, including the securities register and the Public Officer records held with SARS.
  • Oversight of periodic tax submissions made by your accountant, compliance status tracking and structured governance checks to reduce the risk of administrative penalties.
  • Routine monitoring of your company profile details, registered address and official communications, so they stay aligned with statutory requirements.
  • Forwarding of SARS and CIPC correspondence to you and your accountant within 3 business days.
  • Signing, approval or submission of documents where the Public Officer's authority is specifically required by SARS.

How it works with your accountant

Your accountant continues to manage your tax profiles, prepare and submit returns, and deal with SARS day to day. We oversee and monitor that work as your Public Officer. We rely on your accountant to send us copies of submissions, proof of filing and SARS notices promptly. This does not limit any statutory duties placed on the Public Officer by law.

What is not included (quoted separately)

  • Preparation or submission of tax returns, bookkeeping and annual financial statements.
  • Any statutory audit or review of financial statements. This is a compliance oversight service, not an audit.
  • Arrears, late filings and penalties.
  • SARS audits, objections or disputes.
  • Deregistration of VAT, PAYE or the company.
  • Government fees and your accountant's fees.
  • Foreign (non-South African) tax advice.

Pricing

  • Public Officer appointment: R2,850 once-off.
  • Essential Audit & Oversight: R4,750 per year.
  • Year one: R7,600. From year two: R4,750 per year.
  • Optional: SA bank account facilitation R1,850; document certification R385 per document.

What we need to start

  • Certified copy of the director's passport or ID and proof of residential address.
  • Company registration documents and CIPC details.
  • Your SARS eFiling details for the company.
  • The name and contact details of your accountant, and their confirmation that they will send us copies of submissions and SARS notices.
  • A short description of what the company does.

Engagement and terms

The engagement is subject to acceptance after identity verification. If we cannot accept your company, fees paid are refunded less an administration fee of R850. Otherwise fees are paid annually in advance and are non-refundable. From year two the annual fee is invoiced 30 days before the anniversary. Either party may end the service on 30 days' written notice, and you must appoint a replacement Public Officer within the statutory period. You must tell us promptly of any change in the company's activities, such as starting to trade or invoice, hiring staff or registering for VAT. Maltech-Africa may replace the designated Public Officer with another suitably qualified Maltech-Africa employee and will notify you. The name of the Public Officer is confirmed at onboarding.

Frequently asked questions

Do I still need an accountant?

Yes. We oversee your compliance and do not prepare or submit your returns.

How is this different from the dormant company retainer?

That retainer is for dormant companies and includes the filings. This service is for companies with their own accountant, which may be trading.

Does this remove me as director?

No. You stay director and shareholder. Only the Public Officer function changes.

Can a non-resident director be the Public Officer?

No. The Public Officer must live in South Africa, so non-resident directors appoint a nominee.

What if my accountant stops filing?

Tell us at once. We will advise on the steps, and any catch-up work is quoted separately.

Is this an audit?

No. It is a compliance oversight service.
